Arch Coal Earnings Beat, Sees Demand Recovering
Arch Coal (ACI) surprised analysts by reporting a profit instead of the expected loss when it announced third-quarter results on Friday. The mining company believes coal markets are recovering and sees demand from China increasing in the future. Arch said third-quarter earnings was 20 cents per share vs. 3 cents in 2011, smashing analyst expectations of a 16 cent loss. Revenue dipped 9.3% to $1.09 billion, above estimates of $1.01 billion.
