Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (Nasdaq: AMD) fell to a larger than expected loss for the third quarter of 21 cents per share compared with earnings of 13 cents per share a year earlier and announced plans to eliminate approximately 1,770 employees. The stock price dropped 38 cents to $2.24.
