Union Pacific (UNP) reported a rise in third-quarter earnings Thursday despite a decline in coal shipments and overall economic uncertainty. The railroad said Q3 earnings jumped 18% to $2.19 per share, topping analyst estimates of $2.18. While revenue rose 5% to $5.34 billion, it fell just short of expectations of $5.38 billion.
