Madison Repertory Orchestra Debut Performance Announced
PR Log - Oct 17, 2012 - Madison, WI -- The new Madison Repertory Orchestra (MRO) makes its debut on Saturday, November 3rd at 2:30 pm at the Mills Music Hall in the Mosse Humanities Building on the campus of the University of Wisconsin (UW).
The program includes Beethoven’s 7th Symphony, the Overture from Carl Maria von Weber’s Der Freischutz, and Samuel Barber’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra featuring award-winning 18-year-old Ji Soo Kim as soloist. Ms. Kim, an undergrad at Princeton University, is a recent recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award (presented by the popular PBS program, “From the Top”).
The student-run MRO is a new arrival on the Madison music scene and the creation of UW senior Jacob Kallman, who is also the orchestra’s conductor. His conducting credits range from the New York Youth Symphony to first-hand experience conducting professional orchestras in three countries including Great Britain (London) and Russia where he had the privilege of conducting the Russian National Orchestra in Moscow.
Encouraged and inspired by the Madison Symphony Orchestra and its conductor, Maestro John DeMain, Kallman’s vision for the MRO is to provide a professional orchestral experience for aspiring musicians in the Madison area. Kallman adds, “The idea is to launch a sustainable student-run program, similar to what has already been successfully achieved at Yale, that will take root and provide highly-accomplished musicians the opportunity to perform and contribute to the local music community. The MRO is committed to providing a professional-level experience for musicians and music lovers alike. I’m thrilled that so many talented musicians have answered the call for auditions; we’re going to make great music.
The Mosse Humanities Building is located at 455 N. Park Street., Madison, WI (click here for directions). The concert is free and open to the public.
