Mixed Open As Investors Monitor Crude Oil Prices
The markets opened mixed with the Dow adding 6 points to 13,559 while Nasdaq eased a point to 3177 as investors monitored crude oil prices.
On the upside
Anthera Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: ANTH) will submit Phase 3 trial protocols for its lupus treatment blisibimod.
Energizer Holdings (NYSE: ENR) will save approximately $175 to $200 million by streamlining processes, eliminating jobs and reducing expenses.
Velti (Nasdaq: VELT) secured a 2-year, $27 million mobile marketing technology contract.
On the downside
Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) chief financial officer Thomas Seifert resigned.
OCZ Technology Group (Nasdaq: OCZ) announced the resignation of president and chief executive officer Ryan Petersen and appointed executive vice president and chief marketing officer Alex Mei as interim chief executive.
ExactTarget (NYSE: ET) priced its follow-on public offering of 7.5 million common shares at the discounted price of $22.50 per share.
In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by a margin of more than 7 to 5 on the NYSE and by more than 9 to 7 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks slipped a point to 857.
