NEW YORK, N.Y., Sept. 7, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AlixPartners, the global business-advisory firm, today announced that retail and retail-consulting veteran Steven Nevill has joined the firm as a managing director in its Retail Practice. Nevill has more than 25 years of experience working with large retail companies in the areas of merchandising, inventory management, operations, and retail systems. Most recently, he was executive vice president for inventory management and support at Macy's Department Stores Inc.
Nevill, who is based in New York, has worked in a variety of retail sectors including mass, specialty, department-store, discount, direct (including catalog), grocery, multi-channel and "category-killers." He also has a proven track record of creating both new business functions and overall high-performance organizations.

In his recent position at Macy's, Nevill was responsible for multiple merchant planning and strategic groups, including inventory management, pricing, sizing, merchandising strategic initiatives, reporting and analytics, and omni-channel processes and systems. Working in New York, he also led several corporate-wide initiatives including price optimization, localized assortments and omni-channel processes and systems. Before that, he was executive vice president of merchandising processes and systems, working from Atlanta, where he was responsible for merchandising and supply-chain strategies, processes and systems for the $30 billion retailer. The strategic initiatives he worked on included advance assortment planning, a reorganization of the "My Macy's" localization program, inventory allocation and size optimization, and merchant-information strategies. He worked directly with the company's corporate strategy group and reported to its operating vice chairman.
Prior to its merger with Macy's, Nevill worked for May Department Stores Co. in St. Louis, where he was senior vice president for corporate inventory management. In that position, he was responsible for inventory-related strategies, processes, systems and other merchandising issues for the then-$15 billion retailer. During the merger, he was responsible for establishing the planning organization for Macy's Midwest division and coordinating the integration of that division and Macy's North division into the parent company.
From 2001 to 2005 and from 1996 to 1999, Nevill worked as a retail consultant and managing partner at Kurt Salmon Associates Inc. In his seven years with that firm, he worked in a variety of roles, starting as a line partner and progressing to national director of merchandising and strategy, which provided merchandising and strategy consulting services to retailers and consumer products companies.
In between his two stints at Kurt Salmon, Nevill was chief information officer of retail start-up Gerald Stevens Inc. In his time there, the company became the largest vertically-integrated floral and gift company in America, with more than 300 physical stores, five major Internet businesses, major catalog and call-center operations, and wholesale and import operations. As CIO, Nevill was responsible for all systems-related matters, designing store and hub operational processes, and the company's Internet-based businesses.
Earlier in his career, Nevill was director of strategic systems at the American Retail Group Inc. in Atlanta, where he built and led an internal consulting and systems group to support a variety of specialty chains, representing more than 1,200 stores in total. He began his career at Deloitte & Touche Consulting (now Deloitte Consulting), where he was a senior manager focused primarily on the retail industry.
Nevill has an MBA in finance and management information systems as well as a bachelor's of degree in business analysis from Indiana University in Bloomington.
