Elster Participates In Reverse Trade Mission With U.S. Trade And Development Agency
-- Mexico Smart Grid stakeholders learn more about Elster's technology innovation and manufacturing capability --

RALEIGH, N.C., Aug. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Elster (NYSE: ELT) announced today that, at the invitation of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), the company participated in a Reverse Trade Mission with Mexican Smart Grid stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Energy (SENER), the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), an Elster customer, and the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE).

Elster, an innovative provider of Smart Grid systems solutions and a leading North American manufacturer of meters for electricity, gas and water utilities, provided the delegation with an overview of the company, highlighting Elster's history of innovation and long-standing presence in the United States and Mexico. Elster's North American headquarters and home of its North America electricity business unit, Elster Solutions, is located in Raleigh.

"Elster is pleased to have participated in this important reverse trade mission to discuss our respective visions for grid modernization and common interest in moving forward with expanding Smart Grid deployment in Mexico," said Ed Myszka, president, Elster Solutions.

"We have a long-standing relationship with CFE and we are growing our presence in Mexico to meet the increasing demand from CFE and other Elster customers in North America," Myszka added.

Elster announced the expansion of its facility in San Luis Potosi, Mexico earlier this year.

The USTDA sponsored the Reverse Trade Mission to familiarize Mexican regulatory and power utility company representatives with the U.S. Smart Grid regulatory environment and advanced U.S. Smart Grid technologies and equipment to support the implementation of Smart Grid projects in Mexico. The schedule included meetings with U.S. companies, U.S. government agencies and trade associations, as well as site visits to electric utilities.

Earlier this year, USTDA awarded a $405,000 grant to CRE to support the development of a regulatory framework for Smart Grid implementation in Mexico.
