On the downside Second quarter earnings fell for Staples (Nasdaq: SPLS) to miss analyst expectations prompting the office supplies retailer to cut its outlook for the year.Deere & Co. (NYSE: DE) reported higher third quarter revenue and earnings but the results missed expectations by a wide margin and the farm equipment maker lowered its full year guidance. Sterne Agee downgraded OCZ Technology (Nasdaq: OCZ) to a Neutral rating. In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of nearly 5 to 3 on the NYSE and by more than 5 to 3 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks added 3 points to 800.
