Kysor Panel Keeps Its Manufacturing Cool with Packeteer iShared Systems to Meet Soaring Customer Demand

Leading Provider of Cold Storage Walk-In Freezers Accelerates Critical Product Design File Transfers to Significantly Improve Manufacturing Output

Packeteer(R) (NASDAQ:PKTR), the global leader in WAN Application Optimization, today announced that one of the leading manufacturers of cold storage walk-in coolers and freezers, Ft. Worth, Texas-based Kysor Panel Systems, is deploying its Microsoft Windows-based iShared(TM) branch office IT services appliance to dramatically accelerate strategic product design file transfers between remote manufacturing locations and its headquarters where the designs are created. By achieving LAN-like performance over its wide area network with the iShared systems, Kysor Panel is optimizing its manufacturing processes to greatly improve time-to-market product delivery as customer demand in the highly competitive grocery industry continues to escalate.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Enodis Corporation, manufacturer of commercial food equipment solutions, Kysor Panel maintains product design and manufacturing plants in Ft. Worth and Phoenix connected via a T1/virtual private network. To bring product to market at lower cost with the highest quality, Kysor Panel is deploying AutoCAD 2006 and Inventor 11 design tools to develop its highly sought after panel products. However, because these applications embed a significant amount of data including bill of materials and detailed architectural designs that can often reach file sizes of 100 MB, file transfers between sites became painfully slow, negatively impacting design and manufacturing productivity.

"The demand for innovative cooler and freezer solutions in the grocery industry is really intensifying which is why we're busier than ever before," says Mickey Oxford, director of information technology with Kysor Panel Systems. "In order to keep up with demand, we had to figure out a way to overcome our file transfer problems. Typically, design plans contain anywhere from eight to twelve products per job, and we were experiencing 15 minute file transfers per product which was just killing our efficiency."

To overcome this file transfer roadblock, Kysor Panel is deploying Packeteer's iShared systems at its Ft. Worth and Phoenix facilities. These appliances integrate wide area file services (WAFS) and WAN optimization technologies that accelerate application performance and provide bandwidth-enhancing compression to help customers avoid expensive network upgrades. In addition, the iShared systems employ a compression technique that eliminates redundant traffic without modifying the structure of data packets to ensure that all network data and application transfers are safe and secure.

"Once we installed the iShared systems, the AutoCAD and Inventor application file transfer times between sites plunged from 15 minutes to less than 60 seconds," says Oxford. "Not only have we accelerated our most strategic applications, we've been able to do so without having to deal with the cost and headache of upgrading our wide area network links."

By avoiding a WAN link upgrade with the iShared systems, Kysor Panel has realized a rapid return on investment. In addition, the systems' ability to compress and optimize WAN traffic has favorably impacted overall network performance by reducing traffic loads.

"The iShared systems were extremely easy to install and configure and since they've come on line the WAN is no longer a bottleneck to productivity," Oxford said. "Without the iShared products, the current demand for product would have brought us to our knees."
