Anthelio Adds Industry Veterans John McConnell, M.D., and Kevin Hickey to Healthcare Innovation Council

McConnell, M.D., CEO of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, and Kevin Hickey, principal, HES Advisors, to its Healthcare Innovation Council.

Dr. McConnell has overall responsibility for research, commercialization, education and patient care programs at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He also serves as Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, Wake Forest University; and Professor of Urology, Wake Forest School of Medicine.

A urologist and translational researcher by training, Dr. McConnell has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and 10 books about his research. He has received the Barringer Medal from the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons, and the Fuller Award from the American Urological Association in recognition of his contributions to the field of prostate disease. Dr. McConnell has also served on the Advisory Board of NIH-NIDDK, and was elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences in 2004.

Mr. Hickey is a 35-year veteran of the U.S. health insurance, health services and health information technology sectors. He is co-founder and continues as a principal of HES Advisors, a consultancy advising growing healthcare companies on strategy, product development and performance improvement, with a focus on information systems and operations.

He has recent direct experience as director/advisor with several Medicaid MCOs and hospital-owned MCOs, assisting with growth plans, financial enhancement, mergers, acquisitions and turnarounds. Mr. Hickey is part of the founding team and currently serves as the lead outside director for WellCare Health Plans Inc. (NYSE: WCG), which has over $6 billion in revenue and over 2.5 million Medicare and Medicaid members. He also played key leadership roles with IntelliClaim, Inc., a privately-held claims processing application service provider that was sold to McKesson; Oxford Health Plans, a $4 billion health plan, where he was responsible for managing systems and operations in a turnaround setting; Aetna Health Plans, where he was responsible for all transaction processing, claims payment and IT; Lincoln National Life, where he served as General Counsel/ Vice President of Development; and MetLife Health Care, where he held roles as Senior Vice President of Employee Benefits and General Counsel.
