The site’s distinctive features include location awareness, which uses a site visitor's IP address to display aircraft in their vicinity, and automation tools to simplify the creation and management of aircraft listings.  

Aircraft shoppers worldwide can search aircraft for sale through the site's clutter-free interface. Aircraft sellers can quickly and easily list one or several aircraft--from single engine airplanes to corporate jets and helicopters.

According to Dave Goodwin, PlaneViz' founder, "We built the site to make it easy for sellers to create and manage one or multiple listings and for buyers to quickly find aircraft they are interested in."

The site's features include

  - Sorting of search results by year, make, model, price, location, and more
  - Easy photo uploading with automatic image resizing
  - Self-service interface to add and edit listings
  - Automatic email notifications of ads about to expire
  - One-click search capability for popular aircraft types

PlaneViz offers three types of aircraft classified listings: Free, Standard, and Premium. All listings include a full description and up to 8 photos.

Adding aircraft is a simple process of creating a user account, completing the aircraft details form, and uploading one or more photos. Multiple aircraft may be added to a single user account for easy group listing management. The system monitors each listing and notifies the aircraft seller before expiration, at which time the ad may be renewed or may expire automatically with no need for further action from the seller.

Any type of aircraft may be listed including small, general aviation aircraft, such as  Cessna, Piper, and Beechcraft, personal and business helicopters, business jets, warbirds, specialty airplanes, and even retired and re-purposed airliners.

PlaneViz’ location awareness is an innovative feature among aircraft classifieds websites. "In the U.S. and Canada, displaying aircraft in the vicinity of the shopper makes sense" Goodwin said. "We have grouped states and provinces into regions to make it easy to explore what’s available within a few hours of flight or drive time." Goodwin added that location awareness is limited to the U.S. and Canada since aircraft proximity is not usually a factor when overseas buyers are considering North American aircraft.

An additional resource on the site is the PlaneViz blog where visitors can browse information and photos on a wide range of aviation topics.
