Euro Optimism Proves Fleeting; Financials Slump
The recent euphoria over a supposed united European plan to solve the debt crisis proved short lived. Investors today were jittery with worries the plan, or plans, might be harder to carry out than anticipated. Add to those jitters, a few caused by investment firm MF Global's decision to apply for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and you have all the ingredients for a dark end to a generally upbeat month.
