LONDON, UK – (IBWire.com Oct 25, 2011) – Edition 1 of NRG Expert’s new Utility Metering Deployment and Smart Grid Report shows the overall market size for new utility meters growing with a CAGR of 8% between 2010 and 2014. Value of the market nearly doubles to over US$20 Billion in the same period as old technology is replaced and newly installed Smart-Meters take hold. Over the 4-year period, gas meter deployments show the strongest cumulative annual growth of 18%. Electricity and water meter deployments show a CAGR of 7% and 5% respectively.
“In terms of value, the overall market for electricity meters will rise to US$11.9 Billion at an annual rate of 12%;” says Max Krangle, Managing Director of NRG Expert. “By far, Europe and South America will see the largest growth in terms of value thanks to replacement schemes in developed countries and new deployments in developing countries.” Mr. Krangle adds: “Brazil will start to see a great upswing as these projects take off and new deployments come online.”
Water and gas metering systems are increasingly being deployed and enjoy high growth rates thanks to the relative low penetration of the market. Here, developing and developed nations are with few exceptions on equal foot. With a push towards smart-metering, Europe and North America will see the highest growth rates in terms of value at around 20% cumulative annual growth rate over the next 4 years for gas meters. Water meter deployment is slower in these regions and here, the developing nations fuel growth with Brazil and China showing 18% and 27% CAGR respectively.
