With new bargain tablets set to hit the market in droves, On the Move Systems’ (OTCBB: OMVS) mobile content development plans could leave the company well-positioned as an early player in a booming industry, said CEO Patrick Brown on Friday.
“Tablet manufacturers are racing to hit that magic price point that drives so many consumer electronics devices—$200,” Brown said. “It’s getting easier and more affordable to own a tablet, and each of the millions of consumers that buys one is going to need innovative mobile apps and content to personalize his or her device. By providing a wide range of mobile content to tablet users, OMVS will be poised for explosive growth as this market continues to develop.”
Since the introduction of Apple's iPad in April 2010, consumer adoption of tablets as an alternative method of media consumption has accelerated. Tablet sales have already grown 261 percent this year alone. Though the tablet market is currently being flooded with new products, it is still at a nascent stage. As more and more competitors such as Lenovo, Kobo, Amazon and others join the tablet revolution, prices continue to plunge. On October 5, the world's cheapest tablet PC, priced at just $35, was launched by the Indian government as part of a program to expand education among students through information technology.
“Lower prices are making tablets accessible to everyone,” Brown said. “Soon, our mobile apps will be available to everyone, too. By offering a diverse array of products, we believe the sales potential for innovative and useful apps is nearly unlimited.
“With new tablets being announced every day, it may be time to raise our expectations,” he added.
Earlier this month, OMVS formed a new joint venture with mobile content provider Spud McCool Media Inc. to create innovative new products in a mobile app market forecast to reach $7.68 billion by the end of the year.
