Worldwide tablet computer sales are on track to grow to 63.6 million units this year, supporting On the Move Systems Corp.’s (OTCQB: OMVS) assertion that now is the time to capitalize on the booming market for mobile applications.
The impressive figure was forecast earlier this month by research firm Gartner. 63.6 million tablets represent a 261-percent rise over 2010’s sales totals, and the market for the breakthrough wireless devices is just getting warmed up.
“With tablet sales set to explode around the globe, we’re extremely confident that the new mobile applications we’re developing with Spud McCool Media are going to find a very large and receptive audience,” said OMVS CEO Patrick Brown.
OMVS formed a new joint venture with mobile content provider Spud McCool Media Inc. on Monday to create innovative new products in a mobile applications market forecast to reach $7.68 billion by the end of the year.
“The sales growth of tablet computers and mobile apps are feeding off of one another,” Brown said. “We’re witnessing the beginnings of the next great computing revolution, and we’re working hard to position OMVS to capitalize.”
