TDi Technologies (http://www.tditechnologies.com/), the leader in IT Foundation Management, today announced that Chief Security Officer Clyde Poole CISSP will be presenting on the importance and challenge of defending against the insider threat at the Computer Forensics Show in San Francisco.
While traditional IT security approaches have focused primarily on preventing unwanted outsiders from "breaking through" exterior defenses (firewalls, etc.) the insider threat is focused on the people already inside perimeter defenses. These are the people who are supposed to be there and include employees, contractors, service personnel, and even business partners. The physical and logical access these people have to sensitive data and systems has become one of the predominant security threats over the last decade.
Mr. Poole will be presenting on the challenge of security in respect to privileged insiders, those technical experts who often have unrestricted access to the heart of the IT infrastructure. While traditionally most organizations have adopted a "policy of trust" for these technical experts the growing incidence rate of security breaches attributed to privileged insiders is forcing organizations take more aggressive security measures.
"We used to think security was almost exclusively a perimeter defense practice but we can no longer afford to think that way," stated Clyde Poole. "Research from DISA, US Secret Service, CERT, and the Verizon Business Risk Team clearly indicates that insiders are a major source of security breaches. Almost half of the insider breaches in 2009 involved privileged misuse and of those, 90% had system administrator or privileged system access. The insider threat is not only very real; it is fast becoming the most critical security threat to our businesses."
Clyde Poole is Chief Security Officer for TDi Technologies and a highly regarded IT security expert. In his career, Clyde served on the Board of Directors first of DECUS and then Encompass as an IT visionary. He is a frequent speaker at local and national user group functions, providing thought leadership on effectively and efficiently monitoring, managing and securing IT infrastructure. Clyde participated in the next generation Critical Infrastructure Protection standards development. He is a subject matter expert on securing systems from the "Inside Threat" using his "life cycle" approach to computer and network security. He wrote the State of Texas Digital Signature Law and assisted in rewriting the Public Information Act.
The Computer Forensics Show (http://www.computerforensicsshow/) is a premier security and forensics event that features presentations from industry thought leaders in multiple tracks including Accounting, Legal, IT Security, IT Security Advanced Track, and Cyber-crime. Mr. Poole will be presenting in the IT Security Advanced Track on November 2nd.
