Launch of corporate health club in Sydney, Australia to address the costly problem of workplace illness and loss of productivity.


The launch of the corporate health club, Elevate Corporate, in Sydney today, is likely to raise more than a few eyebrows at the big end of town - it might even literally raise them out of their well-padded seats. Upstart corporate health and wellbeing expert, Daniel Carlin, thinks they’d be better off that way - getting exercise rather than that extra potato for lunch at “The Establishment”, or having a health check rather than staying at the office another late night to work on the quarterly report.

In 2005, Medibank Private commissioned research which found that healthy employees are three times more productive than unhealthy employees, who tend to take nine times more sick leave than their healthy counterparts. In 2007, the research showed that the cost to the Australian economy from stress alone is $25.7 billion annually, with on average, six working days of productivity lost each year .

“Many people working in corporate environments don’t realize that they’ve been expecting their bodies to keep up a punishing schedule until after it stops working”, says Daniel. “They suddenly develop aches, pains and low energy, or worse, chronic conditions triggered by a sedentary lifestyle and poor diet - things like diabetes and heart disease - and they wonder why.”

Daniel is the founder and CEO of Elevate Performance and Health, a CBD Sydney health and well-being clinic. With the launch of Elevate Corporate, Daniel’s company combines in-house corporate health programs including health checks, assessments, seminars, workshops and classes with clinical treatments such as massage, osteopathy, acupuncture, physiotherapy, podiatry, counseling, coaching and naturopathy. Also, membership includes substantially-discounted health products and services for staff.
