Supplier Relations US, a leading market research firm, publishes its latest industry report on the U.S. fiber optic cable manufacturing industry. This Q3 2010 report shows that after a 23% drop in year over year sales in 2009 when the industry generated approximately $1.45B USD, current signs indicate a strong rebound for 2010. The most significant piece of data to support this has been the industry's trade activity during the first half of 2010.
While this latest market research contains the latest data and analysis on the industry spanning a multitude of areas, one of the most telling pieces of it has been at the international trade level. In the first half the year, U.S. exports for the industry exceeded the same period last year by nearly 30%. Even the import numbers over the same period grew by almost 15%. Historically the industry shipments remain relatively constant over the seasons, thus implying the total exports from the U.S. could reach $800M for the year.
Originally the total global trade estimate for 2010 was forecast at $1.9B, with the U.S. responsible for approximately 30% of it. At the current rate, the global trade would need to be revised up to nearly $2.67B. This growth has been bolstered by the strength of the worldwide telecommunications industries, who continue to build infrastructure to fuel the demand for data transmissions both at the business and consumer level. The U.S., being a major supplier in the fiber optic cable industry, stands to benefit from the healthy appetite for this product. Similar appealing market conditions also apply to Mexico, a major trading partner who supplies approximately 50% of the imports into the U.S.
Jacqueline Smith, the firm's lead analysts, made the statement: "The trade data on the fiber optic cable took us by pleasant surprise." Smith mentioned that "while most experienced a difficult year in 2009, this industry and its downstream telecommunications industry have shown a much stronger resilience, recovering much faster than other industries." Smith encourages clients and industry analysts to examine the market research report and its copious data to make their own planning and forecasts.
