Buffalo, NY based non-profit national service agency WNY AmeriCorps officially released the WNY AmeriCorps' 2009 Annual Report, outlining the impact of national service on Western and Central New York. WNY AmeriCorps' 2009 Annual Report highlights the impact of their national service programs focusing on Education (ABLE: AmeriCorps Builds Lives through Education), Poverty Elimination (VISTA: Volunteers in Service to America), and Youth Leadership Development (ServiceCorps). Also highlighted are special Hands On Greater Buffalo volunteer projects and the impact of leading thousands of volunteers in "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" community projects in the City of Buffalo.
In 2009, such efforts helped the rate of volunteerism in the City of Buffalo grow at a pace 14 X the national average increase, climbing from 24.1% to 29.7% while the national average saw an increase of .4%.

"Whether people serve for a few years in schools and non-profits, or an afternoon cleaning a community park, we want to make sure they are aware of the impact that their service holds when added up to a whole."
Highlights from the Annual Report include:
493 WNY AmeriCorps members served 386,126 hours 20,904 volunteers were recruited by WNY AmeriCorps members, who provided 116,258 hours of service to the community worth almost 2.5 Million dollars 468 individual service projects were designed and implemented for neighborhood improvements 103,344 children in needy communities were served 144 homes and buildings were constructed, partially reconstructed, or renovated Over 4.5 Million pounds of food were distributed to 39,836 low-income families 81,963 families and 205,352 individuals were served Over 4.7 Million dollars in cash and in-kind resources were raised by our AmeriCorps programs 164 non-profit organizations received vital support from WNY AmeriCorps members The annual report can be downloaded in its entirety at http://www.WNYAmeriCorps.org/annualreport2009.
