North Carolina Law Firm Donates Durham Bulls Tickets to Big Brothers Big Sisters

One of the best ways to enjoy a summer evening with a friend, or mentor, is to join them at a Durham Bulls baseball game.

That realization led the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin to make a donation of Durham Bulls tickets to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle. Big Brothers Big sisters has been a leader in youth mentoring services for more than a century. It pairs children from single-parent homes with volunteer adults who can spend one-on-one time with them, help them with their homework and participate with them in community events. Statistics have shown that children matched with Big Brothers or Big Sisters were less likely to use illegal drugs, less likely to skip school, more confident in school, and better able to form lasting relationships with families and peers.

The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin donated eight seats to Durham bulls baseball games on July 25 (against the Syracuse Chiefs) and Aug. 6 (against the Indianapolis Indians).

"A lot of our kids have never experienced going to a ballpark before. This will be a wonderful experience for them and expose them to something new. It will also allow them to spend valuable time with their Big Brothers or Big Sisters," says Barron J. Damon, Vice President of Partnership Development for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle.

"Not to mention, it is just fun - and the food is great too. There is nothing like a ballpark hot dog!"

One of the firm's personal injury attorneys (http://www.farrin.com/about-us/our-attorneys.html), Dekhasta (Dee) Rozier, volunteers as a Big Sister and was a former part-time Match Support Specialist for the organization.

"Children really benefit and grow with a consistent relationship with an adult who can share new and fun experiences with them - such as going to their first baseball game together," she said. "Adults form meaningful and worthwhile relationships that have a long-lasting impact on a child's life. I have taken my 'Little Sister' to a baseball game, so I know from experience what a positive effect it can have on a budding adult-child relationship."

The firm has donated dozens of Durham Bulls tickets to local community organizations since it moved its headquarters to the American Tobacco Historic District, overlooking the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DBAP), in November.

"As a member of the community, it is our pleasure to support local organizations," says Founder and President James Scott Farrin.
