A good income stock doesn't need to be one you'll hold on to for decades. Take CenturyTel (CTL), for example. The company is fighting an uphill battle. Of its two businesses, one is dated — wired data, or DSL high-speed Internet access — and one is archaic: landline phone service. If it were to try to prosper from those services in Los Angeles or Manhattan, the company would sink as soon as it hit the water. But that's not what it's trying to do.
