Retail king Wal-Mart and value department store Kohl's bested Wall Street's Q3 earnings forecasts on Thursday. But both offered a guarded outlook for the critical holiday quarter as consumers face ongoing financial and job worries. Still, shares of both chains edged higher Thursday.
