Stocks Fall Hard; Trade Starts Slow, Picks Up Steam

The market fell hard on Friday as volume, which started off slow, increased as the day wore on. The NYSE composite dived 3.1%, the S&P 500 lost 2.8% and the Dow and Nasdaq each fell 2.5%. Tessera Technologies (TSRA) plummeted 4.73 to 22.13 in massive volume. The chipmaker reported Q3 profit that topped views, but issued a weak Q4 revenue forecast.
