The U.S. economy expanded at a 3.5% annual rate in Q3, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. That was the best growth in two years and snapped a string of four quarters of contraction. It's the strongest evidence yet that the U.S. has emerged from a long, severe recession. The news cheered Wall Street, which had expected a 3.2% annualized gain. Stock futures initially popped on the GDP data.
