10:15 a.m. Update: Stocks lost ground in higher volume early Tuesday. The S&P 500 dropped 0.6%, the Dow 0.2%, the Nasdaq 0.7% and the NYSE composite 0.3%. Volume swelled across the board. It rose 18% on the NYSE and 7% on the Nasdaq compared to the same period Monday. On the economic front, the Conference Board's consumer confidence index fell to 47.7, well below analysts' consensus forecast of 53.1. In corporate
