Gannett profit slides 53%; results top estimates

Gannett Co. reports that third-quarter profit fell 53%, as a reduction in the value of its assets, a sputtering economy and continuing print-advertising declines took a toll. But the newspaper publisher and broadcaster indicates that the marketplace is improving.
