Buckeye Technologies Inc. (BKI) manufactures and distributes value-added cellulose-based specialty products used in numerous applications, including: disposable diapers, personal hygiene products, engine, air and oil filters, concrete reinforcing fibers, food casings, cigarette filters, rayon filaments, acetate plastics, thickeners and papers. BKI has two business segments: Specialty Fibers, products derived from wood and cotton cellulose materials using wetlaid technologies; and Nonwoven Materials, products derived from wood pulps, synthetic fibers and other materials using an airlaid process. The Company has production facilities in United States, Canada, Germany and Brazil, and sells its products in 60 countries worldwide.

In the report, the analyst notes:

"On August 11, 2009, BKI reported that it had received a $7.4 million grant from the State of Florida to resume its Foley Energy Project. The project is expected to generate 12 megawatts of electrical power from renewable wood resources and reduce the use of fossil fuels at the site by the equivalent 200,000 barrels of oil per year. The project meets the criteria for several Federal and State grant funds, and alternative fuel mixture credits from the project have already enabled the Company to reduce its debt and improve its liquidity.

"Starting in the fall of 2009, the Company also plans to develop a research and demonstration plant with The University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and Myriant Technologies LLC. The facility, located on BKI's Perry, Florida, site, will explore ways to harness byproducts from cellulosic ethanol techniques to create biofuels."
